Sonikmatter has FINALLY taken the steps to free ourselves from billionaires that want to censor our everyday lives. We use Substack because it is relatively free of censorship all the while having the ability to patrol our own section of the interwebs. Censorship happens when an entity is large enough that its reach stops a significant portion of the population from speaking out or talking about topics that it doesn’t find relevant — often inconsistent and capricious. Editorially, even at the height of our reach, we were a small portion of the net and there were always other sites one could go to for information. I can assure you, we were just as inconsistent and capricious as others. All media that present information beyond simple facts SHOULD be opinionated, and it should be argumentative, and it should be willing to stand for their beliefs. And anything that calls itself ‘news’ should limit itself from these same biases and present only the facts. We have never considered ourselves ‘news’ but Art and Technology and the creative uses of such. Art without opinion is simply craft.
So, where does this leave us? We are in the process of assembling a team to figure out our scope — and rebuild the community beyond this newsletter. We are figuring out the technology and the rules. Our goal is to have a sole focus on what we call “Mind + Music + Technology.” No politics. Not even the right politics that we agree with. No talk about your favorite sports ball team. None. No one cares. Unless you write a space opera about Michael Jordan running for President while battling Bugs Bunny on the 50-yard line of the basketball arena. If you can make a song out of it…fine. If you want to talk about Brandon or Orange Guy? Nope. Got it? I know, I know…musicians are notoriously dense and this is what we love about you! And we will have to put the smackdown. But we still love you.
